Things to consider before purchasing:
There are some factors you will need to consider before buying a knife. There are hundreds of aspects to look at when buying a knife. But to narrow it down for you, here are some of the most important ones you will need to look out for.
- Strength: The strength of the blade you are wielding is obviously very important. It is what makes or breaks the knife you are holding. Before purchasing a knife, make sure the blade of the knife is strong and does not break on impact. You might need to spend more on a strong knife, but it is definitely worth it when it comes to survival knives.
- Grip: Consider the grip of the handle you are going to be wielding. Buy a knife with a handle perfect for your hand size. This will ensure that you have no trouble holding and wielding the knife and will not accidentally stretch yourself with a knife. Check if the knife handle is the same as your hand size and only then make a purchase.
- Blade Material: The material of the blade is also immensely important. Usually, a titanium blade is what good survival knives are made out of. This material not only gives the knife the ability to handle an immense amount of pressure but also makes the knife durable. If you are going to be investing in a knife for outdoors, make sure the knife is durable and has the best blade material.
Where are Camillus knives made?
Before buying a product, let’s first learn about the history of Camillus titanium knives and where these magical knives are made for a better understanding. One of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States dates back to 1876, the Camillus Cutlery Company. These knives have been made in Camillus, New York for over a century.
After being bought by Acme United in 2009, Camillus knives were relaunched in 2009. They replaced the traditional Camillus knives with new modern ones almost entirely. These knives have durable handles and titanium carbonitride bonded blades to make them as modern and mighty fine as possible.
Camillus Knife Blade Material:
The Camillus Crossover Folding Knives have Carbonitride Titanium blades making the blades 10x harder than untreated steel while preventing rust, stains, or corrosion. These blades are made of high-tech steel alloys with carbon nitride titanium blades. Some Camillus knife blades are also Titanium bonded. In contrast to painted or plated metal, Titanium Bond is applied with an especially effective methodology, in which titanium and chromium nitride are combined into a new ceramic coating to form a permanent bond. By applying the patented Titanium Bonding process, stainless steel is made three times stronger than untreated stainless steel, making it more durable in rough environments and providing longer blade life. But because titanium bonded are only 3x stronger whereas Carbonitride Titanium blades are 10x stronger, most knives are made out of Carbonitride Titanium for more security and safety.
Camillus Knife Handle Material:
Camillus Titanium fixed blade knives are mostly made out of a variety of materials. The one found in most of the knife handles is Polyoxymethylene or POM for short. In fact, POM is excellent for knife handles because of its hardness, durability, and its ability to withstand repeated exposure to moisture and heat. It is extremely useful and good as a knife handle. POM is an excellent material for knife handles for its simple durability and multifunctional properties. It has a strong grip, it never breaks, and these are some of the finest self-defense knives which are non-porous, so bacteria and germs can never enter the handle.
Camillus has crafted some pretty amazing knives for more than 150 years—and their Fixed blade knives are no exception. These magical knives are equipped with the following special features:
At the factory, Camillus knives are sharpened at an angle of 17-22.5 degrees except for our TigerSharp knives. The TigerSharp series are sharpened at a 15-17 degree angle, Which is outstandingly sharp for survival knives. The famous paper test is a great way for me to judge a knife’s sharpness, and these can be cut into a piece of paper without a hassle.
Sure, you can find blades with sharper edges on the market, but you should aim for a 17 to 20-degree edge unless you plan on cutting really tough objects. A sharper edge causes the edge to get brittle and is more likely to break. A Camillus titanium fixed blade knife is an outstanding combination of toughness and functionality. Its sharpness allows it to cut right through a piece of paper, while its strength allows it to handle bones and cut ropes with little difficulty.
A knife that does not stay sharp is just a stick with a no-good blade. Edge retention is necessary for any knife, whether it’s a budget kitchen knife or a solid titanium knife. These outstanding masterpieces called the Camillus knives are made with stainless steel known as VG-10, which has excellent edge retention due to its high chromium content. You should only need to sharpen these knives once or twice a year and that’s only if you’re using them frequently throughout the year.

Easy to Clean:
One of the reasons Camillus knives are worth your time is the ease with which they can be cleaned. Cleaning a Camillus titanium knife when out in the wilderness is an easy process. To make sure any germs on it are gone, wipe them immediately with a wet cloth, and if possible, try using warm water with dish soap. However, it is strongly recommended not to use the knife for cutting food if you’re just wiping it with a cloth that can prove hazardous to your health. Basically, a quick rinse and wipe do the trick, so you don’t have to worry about the cleanliness of your knife.
One of the most loved things about Camillus knives is that they’re extremely well-balanced. You’ll immediately notice the heft of one of the finest self-defense knives. The blade feels thick, heavy, and solid immediately. You’ll know this knife is highly durable right away. The immense balance provided by these Camillus titanium fixed blades and folding knives is phenomenal. Using this steel combines the qualities of a blade including immense balance.
In titanium bonded blades, the part of the knife running through the handle is called the tang. Full tang is when the blade runs through the handle, and half tang is when the blade runs halfway through the handle. These knives only use full tang, making them the best-fixed blade knife for self-defense in our Camillus knives review.
